About Event

Join us on Friday October 10 as we celebrate the opening of Kinfolk Tech's latest immersive exhibition KIN: A Festival of Memory and Imagination at WSA in New York City.

Open portals of memory, explore sites of possibility, and build community in spaces centered in imagination, rest, and repair.

The night's festivities will include...

5:30pm-6:30pm
A Teach-In: From Mapping Malcolm to the Aesthetics. Najha Zigbi-Johnson, author of Mapping Malcolm, and Kleaver Cruz, author of The Black Joy Project, open Kinfolk Tech’s immersive exhibition at WSA with a teach-in rooted in Malcolm X’s spatial analysis of radical world-building. Together, they will examine how Black memory, ritual, and imagination inscribe space and time as sites of resistance and renewal. More than a dialogue, this gathering is a collective practice—an activation of ancestral memory, the aesthetics of the Black radical tradition, and the everyday acts through which joy and survival become an architecture of freedom. Speakers and participants will weave a living archive, reclaiming WSA’s creative space as a vessel for public memory-making and world-building. This teach-in invites us to dream forward, to practice liberation now, and to inhabit the future as a shared possibility.

6:30pm–8:30pm
Two-step your way through a sonic portal into the analog roots of music, party and dance culture with DJ collective Uptown Vinyl Supreme.

9:00pm–10:00pm
A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE by Grammy Award winning bassist, singer, songwriter, and composer Esperanza Spalding.

About KIN: A Festival of Memory and Imagination

From October 10 to November 2, Kinfolk Tech will transform WSA into an immersive, living archive—a constellation of portals into collective memory and imagination.

We’re living through a moment of erasure by design—digitally, politically, environmentally. The Kinfolk Tech exhibition is our cultural counter-spell: a space to slow down, reconnect, and resist disappearance. KIN: The Kinfolk Tech Festival of Memory and Imagination exhibition will showcase the importance of the archive, giving people hands on access to the stories, monuments, and knowledge necessary to reimagine our future.

Donations are encouraged in order to support our programming and sustain our efforts to safeguard our narratives against erasure! Kinfolk Tech Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Any donation will receive a donation receipt by email.

Thank you for your support!
