🌐 Software Cluster: Accuracy is a Trap
Accuracy Is a Trap
Climate tech runs on models. Solar production estimates, emissions calculations, load forecasts, carbon accounting. And there's a strong instinct to chase ever-higher accuracy. But more accuracy isn't always better. Sometimes it's a distraction. Sometimes it's actively harmful to the product, the team, or the customer.
Join the 9Zero Software Cluster for a fireside chat with Picarnot co-founder Meseker Yohannes and product leader Janet Brunckhorst as they unpack one of the trickiest judgment calls in technical product work: when does accuracy really matter, and when is "good enough" actually the right answer?
We'll dig into:
When accuracy genuinely matters
When it really doesn't
Why it's so hard to tell the difference
How to think about the tradeoffs
Why thoughtful people disagree
Hard-won lessons from our own careers
For climate tech founders, engineers, designers, and product managers wrestling with where to spend their accuracy budget. Bring your trickiest modeling debates.

About the Speakers:
Janet is a climate tech product leader, advisor, and investor. She provides strategic and operational support to founders in the US and Australia. Janet has led cross-functional teams building software products for the last 20 years, with her time at Aurora Solar cementing her commitment to the energy transition.
Meseker is a co-founder of Picarnot, a company building software and capital rails to accelerate the deployment of microgrid projects. Before Picarnot, he was the first engineer at Aurora Solar, the leading engineering design and sales platform for rooftop solar installers, where he spent years leading development of core product areas including design, proposal, consumption modeling, financing, and permitting tools. With a background in Computer Science from Stanford and hands-on experience building software that balances technical accuracy with usability for real-world energy installers and buyers, Meseker brings a grounded perspective on the tradeoffs involved in developing modeling software for distributed energy projects.
