TL;DR
Overbuild PV/Wind/BESS + multi-day LDES + HVDC (where you can) will be default in most OECD grids: That gets you near-100% renewable production at ~$110–150/MWh system-level LCOE, drifting down with PV/BESS learning rates.
Nuclear/SMRs/firm power can anchor with $100+ LCOE at low-VRE regions or policy-driven markets, but become quickly uneconomic if forced to ride at low capacity factors inside a high-VRE grid.
Seasonal storage can be attractive, but is highly limited to geographies/locations with salt caverns + industrial H2 today. Few innovative, early-stage seasonal technologies exist which have potential to compete with the overbuild narrative.
