Nature Markets: What Must Be Fixed Before Capital Flows

For nature markets to scale credibly, a major gap must be closed between investor expectations and corporate readiness.

On one side, venture capital and institutional investors need stronger market infrastructure before capital can move with confidence. That means reliable metrics, transparent registries, robust MRV, consistent standards, and clearer signals that biodiversity and nature-related outcomes can be measured, verified, and trusted.

On the other side, corporations and businesses are under growing pressure to engage with nature markets through biodiversity credits, nature-positive investments, natural capital strategies, and disclosure requirements. Yet most do not have the in-house biodiversity expertise, systems, or operational clarity needed to do this well. Entering nature markets is not as simple as buying a credit or adopting a single solution. It requires a far more systemic approach to understanding where impact sits, how it should be measured, and what action is needed across complex supply chains, land use systems, and reporting frameworks. This discussion will place startups at the centre of that bridge.

We will explore how emerging companies are building the tools, data infrastructure, verification systems, and transaction mechanisms that make nature markets more credible for investors, while also helping corporates and businesses measure, manage, and act on biodiversity risk and impact in a far more practical way.

The core question is not just how nature markets grow, but what must be fixed for capital to flow with confidence and for corporates to participate with credibility.

If done well, startups can help create the trust layer, operational clarity, and market infrastructure needed to unlock institutional capital and accelerate nature-positive action at scale.
