Kinfolk Tech Presents: KIN Music Series
Week 1 – Yaya Bey & Cleo Reed

Each week over the course of KIN: A Kinfolk Tech Festival of Memory and Imagination, DJs, performing artists, and recording artists will breathe life and energy into the KIN performance space on the 5th floor of WSA. The KIN Music Series provides a stage for musical and movement performances. This space acknowledges joy and movement as essential forms of resistance.

Yaya Bey
New York-bred R&B vocalist Yaya Bey conjures a comprehensive self-portrait on her new studio album, Ten Fold. Where her previous works were earnest and mindful, Yaya’s new LP is definitive, harkening back to aspects of her past while examining the future of the world that surrounds her with a stream-of-conscious intentionality. Over rapturous production from Corey Fonville of jazz group Butcher Brown, Karriem Riggins, Jay Daniel, Exaktly and Boston Chery, Yaya delivers a free-spoken masterpiece that speaks to the intricacies of persevering through a year punctuated by grief and loss, life-altering milestones and everything in between.

Cleo Reed
Cleo Reed is a composer, performer, and multi-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. They produce and design soundscapes, compositions, and popular music works, in addition to mixing, mastering, and editing their own music and visuals. They are a fierce advocate for gender and racial representation in their community, and work as a teaching artist at Willie Mae Future Sounds, an organization dedicated to teaching young girls and gender-expansive youth about music and the power of their own voice. Whether underground or academic, experimental or popular, they express musicianship guided by their radiance, femininity, and cyclical traumas.
