About Event

Hosted by The Families for Nature Foundation × Nature-based Solutions Initiative (University of Oxford)

We will lead a 90-minute interactive session exploring one of the Nature-based Solutions Initiative core research areas: integrating approaches to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss.

The climate and biodiversity crises are tightly intertwined, yet too often they are addressed in isolation, risking trade-offs and limiting opportunities for synergies.

After a welcome address from Professor Nathalie Seddon, the session opens with contributions from Dr. Aline Soterroni and Dr. Jennifer Lucey

  • An open-source economic land-use model exploring the synergies and trade-offs between net-zero policies and biodiversity, translating global policy into national action with a focus on Brazil

  • How multi-functional landscapes can deliver on climate mitigation, resilience, and biodiversity goals

  • Innovative approaches in land use and agriculture to enhance biodiversity and carbon storage

  • Real-world examples, from Scottish Highlands restoration to nature recovery in Malaysian oil palm landscapes

We will then transition to an open, interactive discussion on the challenges, opportunities, and research priorities for advancing biodiversity–climate synergies across scales, and on what it will take to turn ambition into action.

The conversation continues at the Private Capital & Innovation Forum (https://luma.com/wyph94o2), where these themes are connected to private market perspectives.
