Lei & Ledger: A Lei-Making Event
In celebration of Lei Day (May 1st), we are hosting a workshop to commemorate a beloved traditional cultural practice in Hawaii — lei-making.
Sponsored by Stand With Crypto, a national crypto advocacy organization championing for crypto rights and sensible regulation, Lei and Ledger is a lei po'o making workshop with a twist!
Through this collaborative event by lei instructor, Arleen Fernando of Haumea Designs and blockchain instructor, Ellen Ng of Inoa, participants will learn:
How to create their own beautiful lei po'o (or head lei) using the wili style (wrapping flowers and foliage around a base made of ti leaf or braided raffia)
The parallels between lei making and blockchain technology
Learn, have fun and meet new friends on a Saturday morning over lei-making, blockchain technology and light refreshments.
All materials will be provided upon registration and payment.
Please note: refunds will not be made since materials have to be purchased for the workshop. In the event your plans change and you are unable to attend the workshop, you may transfer your ticket to another individual.
About
Arleen Fernando is the owner and head lei maker of Haumea Designs, a lei and floral business she founded in 2013. What began as a tropical floral arrangement studio serving Bay Area weddings and events has grown into a beloved brand known for its artisan lei-making workshops, corporate activations, and milestone celebrations. Arleen has led lei-making experiences at the Bay Area Aloha Festival and the San Francisco Botanical Garden, and has partnered with companies including Everlane, Bloomberg, and Marsh McLennan. Her work spans pop-up shops at Pottery Barn to handcrafted lei for life's most treasured moments — graduations, weddings, and special occasions. In 2022, Arleen moved Haumea Designs to O'ahu, continuing to make lei for special occasions, hosting lei-making workshops and partnering with local photographers to provide lei for photoshoots.
Ellen Ng is the founder of Inoa, a Hawaii-based blockchain technology consulting and education firm. Prior, she led the State Government of Hawaii’s Digital Currency Innovation Lab (DCIL), a pilot program established to create a regulatory framework for crypto exchanges operating in Hawaii. She is also the organizer of the Pacific Blockchain Summit, the first of its kind in the Pacific. A strong advocate of sensible crypto regulation, she serves as the Hawaii Chapter President with national advocacy group, Stand With Crypto.
