About Event

“Joler Chobi, Matir Chobi” is a traveling, community-driven film festival bringing cinema to climate-vulnerable communities in rural Bangladesh. In our inaugural edition, audiences saw their own stories on screen, empowering them to speak directly to authorities through dialogue, about the challenges of climate change. By blending entertainment with meaningful impact, the festival fosters reflection, resilience, and local climate awareness. Supported by Film Independent, UNDP, and FAO, it has proven to be cost-effective and scalable. We are now seeking partners to expand this initiative, connecting grassroots experiences to broader global climate conversations and action.

Speakers:
Rezwan Shahriar Sumit & Gunjan Nanda

Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, a graduate of NYU Tisch, is a Bangladeshi producer specializing in entertainment & social impact. His debut feature, "The Salt in Our Waters", brought the struggles of Bangladesh's climate change frontliners to the forefront at UN COP26 & COY16, receiving support from Spike Lee, CNC Aide aux cinémas du monde & receiving seven National Film Awards. His next film "A New Prophet" is a science fiction supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Film Independent, and Torino Film Lab.

Gunjan Nanda is an eco-communicator and climate practitioner serving as Outreach & Inclusion Co-chair and Regional Head of India for Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action (ECCA), supported by UNFCCC and UNESCO. She promotes inclusion, diversity, and decarbonization in the entertainment and cultural sectors, leading climate campaigns and producing award-winning content—her Climate Mental Health documentary won the Social Impact Award at “A Show for Change Film Festival.” With a background in fashion design and a Master’s in Global Governance and Sustainable Development, she harnesses storytelling and art to drive climate action.
