expanding tools & materials for drawing/storytelling/world-making
Creative media artists have been expanding the possibilities of many tools/interfaces/systems: ‣ Can I write poems with HTML? ‣ Can my game be a journaling tool? ‣ Can office software be a dynamic drawing space? ‣ Can my desktop folder be an escape room game?
To discover more creative approaches like these, we will:
go through works curated by Kay (if you have been experimenting feel free to share your works as well)
look closely at tools' materiality, their built-in constraints, behaviors, and the specific ways they shape what we can express
make small experiments with deliberately simple, low/no-code approaches (with some optional vibe coding if needed)
High level outcome:
develop our sensitivity to digital tools as creative materials, and find new ways for drawing/storytelling/world-making.
Note:
Would be nice if you can bring few lines of your journal, a short story, a small sketch that you want to play with (or we can just see what comes up in our mind). We'll practice slow, intentional making where every choice is hand-crafted and meticulously controlled <3
