Mission Applied: Maritime Dual-Use Announcement Mixer
Mission Applied is the new partnership between Berkeley Gateway Accelerator and the Berkeley Institute for Security and Governance (BISG). BISG does the policy and translation work: analysis, recommendations, convening. Mission Applied is the action arm, the piece that takes capability out of the labs and classrooms and turns it into companies and scalable solutions. If you've got a concept, a research thread, or a company in national security or dual-use tech, this is who you want to know.
Our first move: bringing Fincantieri's engineering challenges to Berkeley.
The evening
An informal mixer at BGA. Food, drinks, and a room full of people working on hard problems in defense and dual-use tech.
You'll hear from Mission Applied on what we're doing and where we're headed, from Mind the Bridge and Fincantieri on the October hackathon, and from mentors and judges pulled from the defense innovation ecosystem, including active-duty Navy leadership working on emerging tech acquisition.
Then we'll get out of the way and let you talk to each other.
The hackathon we're announcing
Fincantieri Maritime Dual-Use Hackathon, October 16-18 in San Francisco. Fincantieri builds the Italian Navy's submarines, the world's largest cruise ships, and the US Coast Guard's Constellation-class frigates. Their engineers wrote the problem statements themselves.
Three tracks: OT Cybersecurity & Blast Radius Analysis, Piping Layout Optimization, and Software-Defined Vessel. Qualcomm and Arduino hardware on hand. Standout concepts get mentorship from Fincantieri's expert network and a real path toward application inside the company.
We'll walk through the tracks, the hardware, and what a strong team looks like, so you show up in October ready to build instead of ready to read.
Who should be here
Students, founders, engineers, researchers, and anyone curious about where deep tech meets national security. Undergrads and grad students from across campus, plus NPS, UCSD, and the community colleges around the East Bay. No maritime background required.
Come solo or bring your team.
Hosted by Mission Applied: Berkeley Gateway Accelerator × Berkeley Institute for Security and Governance, with Mind the Bridge and Fincantieri.
