Lunch and Learn - Bricola Corporate Carbon Almanac: Forecasting Carbon for the S&P 100 with Jimmy Gillan
Corporate carbon disclosures are voluminous but messy — sustainability reports and CDP submissions that are technically public but practically unusable without significant cleanup. This session shares early work on the Bricola Corporate Carbon Almanac, a project to convert those unstructured disclosures into clean, comparable data across the S&P 100 and project those values into the future.
I'll walk through what the data actually looks like once it's structured, some early metrics that fall out of that synthesis, and what I've learned about using AI coding tools to compress what would normally be a multi-person data engineering effort into a solo project. This is a work in progress — I'm looking for feedback on the metrics, the methodology, and what questions this kind of dataset could help answer.

Jimmy Gillan is founder of Bricola Group, a climate and energy transition consultancy, and Affiliate Faculty in Economics at the University of Washington. He previously held roles at Amazon spanning AWS and Worldwide Sustainability, and holds a PhD in economics
