how to organize to address technology's climate footprint (ft. Intel & Breach Collective experts)
Make friends who care about stuff at Soapbox Portland, the city's most fun community space for climate action!
We're having a party for people who care about the planet. Same time, same place, every week. You're invited. Request a reparative ticket here if you need one.
For our February LEARN night on AI, technology, & sustainability, we're hosting Fawn Bergen and Nick Caleb, two Portland-based experts that tackle climate change from different lenses.
Fawn is the Global Sustainability Manager at Intel, and if you've ever used a computer or a phone, you've probably interacted with an Intel product. She'll chat with us on how water and climate stewardship can look like on the corporate side, especially as technology grows more "intelligent."
Nick's work is focused on fighting the fossil fuel industry, using the law, and organizing locally, all very relevant as we discuss how to resist increased oil and gas infrastructure as a direct cause of AI growth.
Please note that this will not be a debate, but rather an informative and interactive discussion! This is a 🥵 spicy🌶️ topic and we'll all be on our best behavior so we can understand how to move forward together.
The plan
5~5:45 pm | arrive, eat dinner, chit chat
5:45~7 pm | interactive Q&A with Fawn Bergen and Nick Caleb
7-8 pm | peer learning + the vibes will continue; pick up the conversation with new people and make friends
Please arrive by 5:30pm so you have time to eat before the programming begins.
