About Event

This Friday, April 17 at 2pm ET Rhizome and the social discovery app for art, Artwrld, will host a free online talk and conversation with artist Sam Lavigne.

The talk will explore Lavigne’s humorous and subversive use of data to reveal the workings of political power, drawing on projects that engage surveillance, policing, natural language processing, and automation.

Lavigne’s exhibition with frequent collaborator Tega Brain was presented in fall 2025 at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, NY. He is a Creative Capital grantee, recipient of the Pioneer Works Working Artist Fellowship, and the Brown Institute’s Magic Grant. He's shown at the Whitney Museum, the Shed, Lincoln Center, SFMOMA, Pioneer Works, Ars Electronica, and the New Museum. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Synthetic Media and Algorithmic Justice at the Parsons School of Design.

About Rhizome
Rhizome champions internet art and culture through commissions, exhibition, and digital preservation, online at rhizome.org and in partnership with its longtime affiliate and host, the New Museum in New York City.

Founded in 1996 by artist Mark Tribe as an intimate email list connecting some of the first artists to work on the web and now—more than twenty years later—a thriving nonprofit with robust, multi-tiered programming, Rhizome has played an integral role in the history, definition, and growth of art engaged with the internet.
