Industrial decarbonisation: Achieving bankable first-of-a-kind projects
First-of-a-kind industrial decarbonisation projects are critical to cutting emissions from heavy industry, but they remain hard to finance and scale.
As part of the Build Clean Now initiative, presented by Mission Possible Partnerships (MPP) and Cyan Ventures, this panel looks at how Australia is positioned across the industrial decarbonisation project landscape, the key barriers to reaching financial close (e.g. off-take and financing), how projects are working through these challenges and what Australia can learn from global examples.
Speakers include:
Rachel Howard, Director (APAC) @ MPP
Rupert Maloney, Executive Director (Alternative Fuels) @ CEFC
Deidre Willmott AM, Strategic Advisor, Global Sustainability & External Affairs @ Fortescue
David Stribley, Co-founder @ HAMR Energy
Shaun Chau & Fraser Thompson, Co-founders @ Cyan Ventures
We will explore where FOAK projects are emerging by sector and geography, how Australian approaches compare, and the barriers that still block bankability. The discussion will focus on risk allocation, policy settings, public finance, and the conditions required to move projects from concept to committed capital.
The session is practical and action-oriented, highlighting how targeted policy and finance can unlock industrial decarbonisation at scale, starting locally and extending globally.
Who should attend
Anyone with a general interest in the energy transition, with a strong focus on financial specialists, policy makers, and practitioners working on industrial decarbonisation, clean energy finance, and large-scale project delivery.
What you will gain
Clear insights into what makes FOAK projects bankable
Lessons from global and Australian case studies
A sharper view of the policy and finance settings needed to unlock investment
Build Clean Now is a global campaign to fast-track the clean industrial revolution.
