About Event

Part 5 in the series about Solarpunk, this session looks at the regional scale and asks: what would an ideal Cascadia look like?

A bunch of shorter readings this week:

How do we decide between competing priorities? How do we incorporate those with different values? What are our obligations towards one another? What is a regional concern, vs a local concern?

We'll investigate these questions through some case studies, depending on everyone's interest. We can choose either:

  1. Indigenous leaders and environmentalists want to breach the Snake Canyon dams. Should we? How do we decide?

  2. Salt Lake City has an environmental crisis and 100,000 refugees come north to Boise, Spokane, and Portland. Do we let them in? What rights do they have? What are our neighborly obligations? (assume some temporary financial help from a federal or larger govt)

As always, please let me know if you have any suggestions or questions.

Homework / Readings are still in progress, but will likely be minimal this week.

Location
9Zero Climate Innovation Hub
1215 4th Ave 15th Floor, Seattle, WA 98101, USA
Parking is available in the building, entrance on University St (of note: there are EV chargers!) Also consider using Spothero. The closest Link Lightrail Station is the Symphony Station. There is a bike room located on the C/D level of the garage. It’s inside the double doors by the elevator (email [email protected] for the door code).
