Innovating for Nature: Scaling up Nature-based Solutions in India
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural and modified ecosystems, benefiting people and nature at the same time. In India, forests, agricultural landscapes, wetlands, and other natural systems are central to carbon sequestration, climate adaptation, water security, biodiversity conservation, and livelihoods, while offering a powerful pathway to deliver national climate and development goals. At the global level, Nature-based Solutions (NbS) could provide up to 37% of the climate mitigation needed by 2030, with NbS investments expected to generate around 390 million jobs by the same year.
Despite growing recognition, investments in nature remain fragmented, small in scale, and disconnected from mainstream economic and financial systems. As India advances its climate commitments and development priorities, there is a growing need to scale NbS and move beyond pilots. This calls for credible economic evidence, innovative and inclusive financial pathways, and delivery models that place communities and local institutions at the centre.
In this context, Iora Ecological Solutions is hosting Innovating for Nature: Scaling up Nature-based Solutions in India, a convening designed as an action-oriented dialogue on how India can unlock and scale finance for nature-based solutions while aligning climate action with livelihoods, biodiversity outcomes, and inclusive economic growth. The programme will bring together stakeholders across policy, finance, economics, and on-ground implementation to build shared understanding and identify practical pathways that can move efforts beyond pilots toward durable, real-world outcomes. Through evidence insights, implementation experience, financing perspectives, and community voices, the dialogue will focus on opportunities and solutions to barriers that currently limit the flow of capital and institutional support for nature-based solutions.
