EXT. HOLIDAY INN, READING - EVENING

Who owns your film?

Join us for a live, in-person discussion that puts modern cinema on trial. As AI-generated content accelerates, the foundations of authorship, ownership, and creative identity are being challenged like never before.

This is a structured debate disguised as conversation.

We will confront a critical question,

If a machine can generate a film, who owns the story?

Through a high-stakes dialogue between legal experts, ethical AI advocates, and filmmakers on both sides of the divide, we will examine the reality behind AI-generated cinema and human authorship.

Hear from:

  • Special guest Dr. Melanie Stockton-Brown, Lecturer in IP Law, with a focus on generative AI.

  • Dominic Lees, Associate Professor, filmmaker, and ethical AI advocate

  • Independent filmmakers representing both pro-AI and critical perspectives

Together, we will explore:

  • Can AI-generated films be legally owned?

  • What defines authorship in the age of automation?

  • Does prompting equal creating?

  • Will audiences value human-made cinema differently as AI floods the market?

This session will challenge assumptions, expose contradictions, and force clarity.

We will also introduce Filmster.ID, a new identity and authorship infrastructure designed to verify, protect, and empower filmmakers in an era of infinite content.

So, the question is no longer what we can create:

What are we willing to own?

Who should attend: Filmmakers, writers, producers, technologists, investors, and students who care about the future of cinema, authorship, and creative ownership.

Hosted by: Filmster Network, the unified infrastructure for modern filmmakers to plan, crew, and execute productions, while learning from their audience in real time; in association with Reading’s Economy and Destination Agency, Screen Berkshire, Resource Productions, and Holiday Inn Reading.
