SBIR/STTR: Federal funding for small businesses returns with Ben Brown
The SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs are major programs for technology development in the US. They provide non-dilutive support via grants for small businesses working on technological solutions. These programs have just returned to life after nearly a half year of being trapped in limbo. We will host a discussion about these programs, about the opportunities with different agencies, about the types of awards (e.g., Phase I, Phase II, Direct to Phase II, etc.) and about how and where to apply. Eleven federal agencies participate in SBIR, while six participate in STTR, and the programs constitute about 3% of each agency's budget. Each agency has a different approach and culture, and knowing about these will help you find the right potential matches. About half of our time will be a presentation on the various programs, and about half will be open Q&A and discussion.
