La Sobremesa Presents: NewComma on Unlocking Africa’s Creative Economy Across the Diaspora
Join us for the next edition of La Sobremesa by M-O, with our very special guests from NewComma, delicious food provided by Elephant & Castle's best Suya spot (included in your ticket), film screenings, talks, music and great conversations in the true sobremesa spirit.
Africa’s creative economy is booming with talent, innovation, and new ideas, yet it still represents just 3% of a global industry worth more than US $2 trillion. This highlights the vast, untapped potential across art, music, film, design, and digital culture, shaped both on the continent and by African creatives working globally.
Technology is one of the key drivers unlocking this opportunity, creating new ways for African creatives (at home and in the diaspora) to produce, share, and scale their work across borders.
This event, hosted with NewComma and a collective of creatives, brings this conversation to life through practical insights and open dialogue. The evening will feature conversations with creatives working across disciplines and geographies, including members of Rule of Thirds — a London-based creative collective and podcast led by three Black British multidisciplinary artists exploring art, design, culture, and access through lived experience.
Together, we’ll explore how technology is changing the way creative work is imagined, built, and monetised, drawing on perspectives that span local ecosystems and global industries.
You can expect: • Inspiring talks from creatives navigating the intersection of tech and art • The opportunity to connect with and learn more about Africa’s creative ecosystem on the continent and beyond • Great food from across the continent and a welcoming space to connect
Join us for an evening that celebrates creativity, shared heritage, and the opportunities emerging across Africa and its global diaspora.
