AI x Creativity: A Community Conversation
We begin by listening. Each speaker shares how AI has entered their practice, not just as a tool, but as something that is beginning to reshape how they think and work beyond image generation. From there, the floor opens to artists and designers directly. Where are we right now? What are we uncertain about, and what are we curious to explore? This session isn’t about arriving at fixed answers, but about opening up a shared space for reflection, conversation, and possibility.
More about the Sharings
Kush Amerasinghe (Founder, BrainBank.world) will share on "Navigating Tech Paradigm Shifts"
Kush will explore the intersection of AI and creativity, addressing the current challenges facing creative professionals in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape. Drawing from historical precedents, he will examine common failures that occur when people project existing paradigms onto emerging technologies rather than embracing fundamental changes. The session will highlight what remains constant in human creativity despite technological evolution and conclude with practical guidance for successfully navigating these paradigm shifts whilst maintaining core creative principles and human-centred approaches.
Valerie Pang (Program Manager, SASH) will share on "Singapore AI Safety Hub: Intro to AI Safety & Governance"
Valerie will be sharing about the Singapore AI Safety Hub (SASH) and its activities, Singapore's first AI safety and governance non-profit that launched as an ecosystem-builder focused on co-working, events, and upskilling and is now expanding into technical and governance research and capacity-building. She will discuss how SASH's research projects bring together stakeholders from Singapore and the broader region, including government, universities, and industry, with leading international AI governance experts to tackle some of the hardest challenges in the international governance of AI. Valerie will also give a brief introduction to AI Safety, sharing about technical AI safety and governance, the different AI Safety organisations in Singapore, and how people can learn more.
Gavin Lim (Filmmaker, AI Film Lab) will share on "Navigating AI as a Creative Professional"
Gavin has spent nearly thirty years making content, and the last few of them negotiating with AI. He's not here to tell anyone whether the tools are good or bad, but to open up the four concerns he keeps hearing from artists, the same four he holds himself, and share where he's landed and where he's still stuck. Expect scar tissue, not slogans, and questions about who owns what, whose style belongs to whom, who gets to shape the rules, and what the word 'artist' even means anymore. Through AI Film Lab 2030 and the monthly FaiGHT CLUB sessions at Lorong AI, Gavin is treating all of this as live research and development. The jury, in his words, is still out.
Lai Lin Tang will share on "AI Ethics in Creative Industries"
Lai Lin will talk about the controversy surrounding AI usage for creative works such as copyright issues, fear of job loss and the backlash against AI. She will compare and contrast the similarities and differences between AI and VFX, and will explore whether it’s possible for AI to be used ethically.
