Accelerating the African Seaweed Sector: A look at Kenyan Innovation, Investment & Impact

Hosted by Doen Foundation, in partnership with Hatch Blue, Mawimbi Ocean Innovations, and Sote Hub.

The African seaweed sector is at a pivotal inflection point. Rising global demand for sustainable biomass and ocean-based products is creating unprecedented opportunities, and Kenya has the potential to become a globally important player. However, bottlenecks in production, processing, and market access continue to hold the sector back.

This exclusive session at the Blue Economy Innovation and Investment Summit 2025 will bring together farmers, innovators, investors, policymakers, buyers, and new entrants to align on what it will take to unlock growth, strengthen livelihoods, and support both Kenya and the wider African ecosystem in the global seaweed economy.

Through startup pitches, panel discussions, and curated networking, we’ll spotlight the innovations, investment opportunities, and pathways to scale that can transform the sector.
