Thinking in systems: Unpacking the interdependencies of tech unsustainability
Welcome to the second workshop in a series of collaborative systems thinking sessions! We'll continue mapping out the complex challenges hindering the development of sustainable technology.
We will continue to utilise the Bee and the Hive metaphor, using it as a framework to explore the intrinsic complexities and interconnected dependencies inherent in technological unsustainability. Even if you missed the first session, your unique perspective is welcome and valuable as we build a complete systems map together.
In this crucial second session, we move beyond isolated issues. We will begin the mapping process by connecting the categories and insights generated in our initial mapping exercise, while also defining any new systemic concepts that emerge.
During this workshop, you will:
Interconnectedness: Map the critical categories.
Build a roadmap: Contribute to establishing a roadmap for the following workshops, ensuring we cover the most pressing issues.
Discover your interests: Identify areas of sustainable tech that particularly resonate with you and align with your passions.
This workshop is an opportunity to connect with fellow ClimateAction.Tech community members, share knowledge, and collectively build a comprehensive understanding of how technology contributes to (and can contribute to solving!) environmental, social, and economic unsustainability.

Siddhesh Wagle is the founder of SystemsTree. His vision is to empower individuals and organizations to integrate sustainability as a core value into their technological practices. He is a volunteer at CAT and runs the thinking in systems workshop series.
Jon Sleeper is a coach, facilitator and consultant with extensive life experience in technology, business and change. He has worked with software in business, change and delivery management for more than 30 years.
