One Month to Ship: Inside OGP's Hack for Public Good
What does it actually look like to design and ship a product in a month?
Join the design team from Open Government Products for an inside look at Hack for Public Good, OGP's annual hackathon. We'll go beyond the demos to explore the design side of the story: what inspired designers to tackle these problems, how they approached the challenges, the trade-offs they made under pressure, and what they learned along the way.
Whether you're curious about design in government or just want to hear honest reflections on moving fast, come along for a candid conversation with the OGP design team.

Our Speakers
Bringing Stakeholders Along the Patient’s Journey
with Qimmy Lim, Senior Product Designer at Open Government Products
Healthcare systems are shaped by many stakeholders, each with different priorities. This talk shares how the team behind Peek, a pharmacy queue visibility tool currently piloting at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, reframed conversations around the patient’s experience of waiting—helping clinicians and administrators align on the real problem and move forward together.
Qimmy works on digital products across healthcare and social services. She believes that design should create a future that looks more human by tech, and not less because of it.
Designing for the things children can’t say
with Natalie Tan, Senior Product Designer at Open Government Products
Children aged 4–6 are among the most vulnerable to abuse. This talk shares how our team created Ouchies, a children’s book designed to help young kids recognise harmful behaviour and feel empowered to speak up. We’ll cover why we chose a storybook format and how we translated a complex and sensitive topic into a simple, empathetic narrative for young readers.
Natalie is part of the Atlas team at OGP, an internal tooling team looking at finance, people, and performance workflows. She believes that thoughtful design and storytelling can make complex systems clearer, more human, and easier for people to navigate.
Designing With AI, For AI
with Sufyan Selamet and Zoey Nguyễn, Senior Product Designer at Open Government Products
Charts is an AI tool that helps government officers turn data into decisions. Building it meant designing for AI (how do you make unpredictable technology feel trustworthy?) while designing with AI (everyone on the team could ship code using Cursor and Claude). This talk explores both sides: the design principle that made Charts work, the messy reality of AI-assisted development, and why not everything needs AI. Plus, what made this hackathon genuinely fun.
Sufyan is a designer on FormSG, turning paper processes into digital ones so you never have to print, scan or email a form again. He believes government services should be simple, design should be easy, and AI should make humans smarter, not lazier.
Zoey is a designer on data.gov.sg, making Singapore's data accessible by default. She advocates for open knowledge and information, and creating an environment where everyone can do their best work.

Open Government Products
Open Government Products is an in-house team of engineers, designers, and product managers who build technology for the public good. We proactively identify areas where technology can help, test our prototypes with actual users, and bring our best ones to launch. This includes everything from building better frontend applications for citizens, to automating the internal operations of public agencies. We use and release open source software, keep a flat hierarchy, and bypass bureaucracy to focus on delivery. We work on real problems, build for the user, and push for change.
