Panelists

Brad Duguid | President, AMPCO

Brad Duguid retired from public office in 2018, following a highly successful 30-year political career. He held numerous cabinet positions including Minister of Labour; Aboriginal Affairs; Infrastructure; Research and Innovation; Energy; Training Colleges and Universities; and Economic Development.

As Minister of Energy, Brad implemented the Industrial Conservation Initiative which has remained a critical tool to help large industrial energy ratepayers reduce their energy costs while also reducing energy system costs. He also authored and brought forward the first true Long-term Energy Plan in Ontario. His work in partnership with Indigenous leaders and communities significantly improved relations with Indigenous people in Ontario.

After serving for numerous years in the private sector and consulting field, Brad took on the position of President of the Association of Major Power Consumers (AMPCO).   He remains a Senior Counsel at Sussex Strategy Group.

Mike Risavy | Director of Resource Planning, IESO

Mike is the Director of Resource Planning at Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator. Mike’s team forecasts demand and supply out to 2050, identifying electricity system needs in a constantly evolving sector to plan a reliable, cost effective power system. Mike has worked across Canada’s energy industry for over 15 years, as a consultant and with the IESO/former Ontario Power Authority.

Nick Martin | Director of Electricity, Transition Accelerator

Nick Martin is the Director of Electricity at the Transition Accelerator, a pan-Canadian organization driving projects, partnerships, and strategies to ensure Canada is competitive in a carbon-neutral world. The Accelerator works with over 300 partners to develop practical, regional pathways to a stronger, more resilient, and affordable future for all Canadians.

In his role, Nick focuses on ensuring the electricity system can meet the needs of a future economy powered increasingly by clean electricity. He works with leaders across the electricity value chain to identify blind spots, build relationships, and drive the development of grid build-out strategies that will position Canada to compete and prosper in a carbon-neutral world.

With over a decade of experience in climate and energy policy, Nick has supported governments, utilities, and industry across North America in their efforts to integrate emerging technologies and advance clean energy strategies. Prior to joining the Accelerator, he held roles at Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors, the Canada West Foundation, and the Pace Energy and Climate Center.
