Poverty, Inc. Detroit VIP Reception + Movie Screening
Join us at The Madison for a special 10th anniversary screening in Detroit of the award-winning documentary Poverty, Inc. This groundbreaking film reveals how initiatives that claim to relieve poverty can unintentionally harm the communities they aim to help, challenging us to rethink how we fight poverty.
More than half of the children in Detroit are living in poverty, according to a new study. As we approach the holiday season and billions pour into seasonal donation campaigns — toys, coats, and canned food drives —we must ask: Despite these good intentions, how effective are these donations at solving the underlying poverty problem?
Poverty, Inc. highlights the power of locally driven, sustainable solutions that create real, lasting change—and inspires all of us to imagine a new, more effective way to make a difference.
1 Girl Revolution will host a VIP Reception before the screening, and lead a post-movie discussion about the impact we can have here in Detroit and around the globe.
Your ticket includes access to both the VIP reception and screening. We also have complimentary media passes for members of the press.
