What is this?
Think of it as a book club, but for movies.
Every month we'll watch a movie that touches on startups, technology, or ambition, then grab drinks before and after with other founders and builders. It's a chill way to make a few friends while talking about something other than fundraising or Claude Code.
Why are we doing this?
Most startup events revolve around pitching, fundraising, or networking. We wanted an excuse to talk about the bigger questions: how technology and startups shape society and how building them shapes us.
We pick a relevant movie each month and discuss it with others who are also creating the future.
What to expect?
Come join us early at Village East to meet other folks. If you like, afterward we'll go to a bar to keep the conversation going over drinks.
What movie are we watching?
October's selection is The Social Reckoning.
Last month Meta agreed to pay up to $17 billion over ten years to settle claims from 51 state attorneys general that it knowingly built features that hooked kids and teens, and more cases are on the way. Social networks may be heading the way of cigarettes, right down to the warning label.
Sorkin's follow-up isn't about founding the company. It's about the people inside it who read the research and had to decide what to do with it: What do you do when you find out what you're building is causing harm? Who do you owe first, the team or the people using the product? And what does it cost to say it out loud?
Also, Jeremy Strong emailed Zuckerberg directly while preparing for the role and defended him throughout the shoot. That's exactly the kind of obsessive craftsmanship we appreciate.
