What happens when we measure success in lives changed rather than revenue? And how do you transform complex scientific research into something a person can actually feel?

In this closing session by CIIIC, artist and Woven founder Thijs Biersteker shares how real-time data can become immersive storytelling that makes complex issues understandable, urgent and actionable for broad audiences.

Dagmar van Ravenswaay Claasen and Robin Coops join for a conversation shaped by insights from the CIIIC Expert Roundtable Sessions on IX held that afternoon. Together, they question how immersive technologies are redefining value, authorship and human agency itself.

About the speakers

Thijs Biersteker is a Dutch artist and founder of Woven Foundation, internationally known for transforming scientific and environmental data into immersive experiences. Working closely with scientists and institutions such as UNESCO and ESA, his installations translate subjects like climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss into emotional and sensory experiences that make complex issues tangible for broad audiences. His work has been exhibited worldwide across museums, conferences and public spaces.

Dagmar van Ravenswaay Claasen is Senior Partner at LUMO Labs, where she focuses on impact-driven technology ventures and sustainable value creation. Her background spans law, fintech, governance and sustainable finance, including leadership roles at Adyen and De Nederlandsche Bank. At LUMO Labs, she works with startups and scale-ups that combine technological innovation with measurable societal impact.

Robin Coops is a director, composer and singer who creates immersive, music-driven experiences. Depending on the theme, he selects specific collaborations to share the story. Technology serves as a tool to expand perception and question embodiment. He offers audiences multi-perspective experiences exploring fear and the desire to lose control. Recent productions include Orphée | l’Amour | Eurydice, an immersive VR opera with the Dutch National Opera; DONS, a club opera on masculinity inspired by Mozart's Don Giovanni; and One Charming Night, filmed in the metaverse, reflecting on intimacy, sexuality, and consent within virtual worlds.

Moderated by Muki Kulhan, an award-winning XR producer, creative technologist and innovation lead with over 20 years of experience in immersive media, entertainment and broadcasting. As UK Ambassador for Women in Immersive Tech, she is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in emerging technologies, and currently leads innovation projects for the IBC Accelerators Media Innovation Programme.
