Professor of Quantum Computer Engineering at Ghent University, Founder of QBee, and quantum computing & DNA researcher at QSentinel.
Prof. Bertels is a globally recognized pioneer in the design of large-scale quantum computers and one of Europe’s leading voices shaping the future of quantum technologies. His work spans scalable architectures, quantum hardware–software co-design, hybrid quantum–classical models, error mitigation, and DNA-based data storage. He has played a crucial role in building Europe’s quantum ecosystem and advising governments and corporations on strategic quantum readiness.

About Prof. Andris Ambainis
Prof. Ambainis is one of Europe’s most influential theorists in quantum computing. A Full Professor at the University of Latvia and Head of the Centre for Quantum Computing Science, he is internationally recognized for shaping the mathematical foundations of quantum algorithms.

​A Ph.D. graduate of UC Berkeley under Umesh Vazirani, Ambainis has held positions at the Institute for Advanced Study and the Institute for Quantum Computing (Waterloo) before returning to Latvia to build a leading quantum research hub.

​His contributions span quantum algorithms, information theory, and computational complexity, including pioneering work in quantum walks, the adversary method, and quantum query complexity. With hundreds of publications and high international impact, he is a key voice advancing Europe’s quantum research landscape.

​Ambainis also leads the Latvian Quantum Initiative, promoting national and cross-border collaboration and positioning Latvia as an emerging quantum-technology powerhouse.
